Sony Named As Wheel of Time TV Series Producers

Variety have released the following on their website:

Sony will produce along with Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures. Rafe Judkins is attached to write and executive produce. Judkins previously worked on shows such as ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD,” the Netflix series “Hemlock Grove,” and the NBC series “Chuck.” Red Eagle partners Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon will executive produce along with Radar’s Ted Field and Mike Weber. Darren Lemke will also executive produce, with Jordan’s widow Harriet McDougal serving as consulting producer.
As yet there has been no official confirmation from Harriet or Sony.

This comes just days after Narg published the Rumor of Sony and AMC and just before Jordancon which is on this weekend.

Update 4: Team Jordan had the following to say on their google plus account:
At the urging of Narg and other posters to Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time, we would like to make a brief statement about last week’s announcement that Sony Pictures Television has signed a contract with executive producer Ted Field of Radar Productions (with whom Bandersnatch Group signed a contract last year) to develop a TV production of the Wheel of Time series.
 Harriet is delighted that Rafe Judkins will be showrunner and lead writer of the series. As with the selection of Brandon Sanderson to finish the book series, Harriet found in Rafe a young artist with an abundance of talent and an abiding love for the series, having been reading the books since childhood. We have been assured that Rafe will have creative control over the television production, and he seems eager to consult with Harriet throughout the process. We wish Rafe the best, and look forward to a long and successful association with him.
Update 3: Dragonmount on twitter  had the following to say:
Spoke to some ppl about the WoT TV deal. Red Eagle is not creativity involved in the show. They retain electronic game rights though. Our understanding is Red Eagle will be listed as Executive Producers on the TV show but not be otherwise involved in that production.
So good news for the TV show but looks like the any games are going to have to put up with Red Eagle. Their last attempt at entering the game world was and utter failure.

Update 2: Terez of at the Theoryland forum Had this to say about Rafe Juddkins:
Harriet told us at the directors' dinner the other night that she requested him and she thinks he's the best possible person for the job because of his longtime love for the series. I'm personally still not expecting much, for several reasons having nothing to do with that, but at least that's one positive note.
Update 1: Still no official press release, so Narg is going to speculate what happened here;

Narg is thinking that Sony and Harriet were going to announce something at JordanCon this weekend but Red Eagle or Field being the jerks they are(see below), decided to hijack the announcement by leaking their own version to Variety(same site which announced the Universal rights deal back in 2008)which plays up their involvement making it seem more than it is. Their true involvement may just be having their names in the credits. Narg really hopes this is the case and that Sony is in charge here.

Update on the above speculation: Narg has learnt the news was released by Ted Fields team(Radar) and that they are the guys in charge. Rafe was personally picked by Harriet as mentioned above and will be the creative mind behind the project and is already talking with her. So yes it was an official press release.

Rafe Judkins (confirmed that he is involved on Twitter)
After Survivor, Judkins moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in screenwriting. With his writing partner and best friend, Lauren LeFranc, he was staffed on the short-lived Christian Slater drama, My Own Worst Enemy. After that, he and Lauren were hired on the third season of Chuck.[2][3] Their episodes included Chuck Versus the Tic Tac,[2] Chuck Versus the Honeymooners,[2] Chuck Versus the First Fight, Chuck Versus the Push Mix, and the first of half of the series finale Chuck Versus Sarah. After a stint on "Hemlock Grove" they are now writing for Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.[4]

Ted Field was born on June 1, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois, USA as Frederick Woodruff Field. He is a producer, known for The Last Samurai (2003), Jumanji (1995) and Pitch Black (2000).
